Colorful Murals to Brighten Downtown Dodge City
By Dodge City CVB on February 13, 2023
Dodge City was selected to receive a Community Challenge Grant from AARP Livable Communities and AARP Kansas to create murals in our historic downtown. The Dodge City Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) is proud to announce that the project is nearing completion.
The PAAC has been working with talented artist, Efe Tekdemir from the design firm Gardner Design in Wichita, Kansas. Input gathered from community table days informed the direction of these three dynamic works of art that will infuse the area with color and excitement while honoring our city’s rich heritage and cultural diversity.
The murals have been sent to Luminous Neon for test prints and final production should be underway soon. The murals will be installed at the same time, a process expected to take approximately two days. Once a date for installation is set, the PAAC will schedule an event and ribbon cutting to commemorate the newest addition to Dodge City’s public art projects.
“We would like to extend our genuine thanks to Gardner Design for their talent and dedication in creating these beautiful works of art and the local businesses who have generously allowed us to use their properties for this project,” said City Manager Nick Hernandez. “We couldn’t have done this without the AARP and their support through the Community Challenge grant program. Everyone’s support helped bring these murals to life and enhance our downtown.”
This project is funded in part from the AARP Community Challenge Grant, which promotes lasting change in communities. The grant is part of AARP's Livable Communities initiative, supporting the creation of livable environments for people of all ages. More info at aarp.org/Livable.
